Resolute Morecambe stole three points from Forest Green thanks to Aaron Wildig's 86th minute strike which saw Rovers slip to successive league defeats for the first time.

Rovers dominated the game but it was the familiar story of not taking their opportunities.

George Williams came closest for Forest Green as his close range effort was somehow cleared off the line in the first half but it's now four without a win for Forest Green

Forest Green were dealt a blow before kick-off when Dayle Grubb was ruled out with a hamstring injury, George Williams replaced him but it meant Rovers could only name six substitutes.

Rovers did have some good news as they welcomed Joseph Mills back after his back injury and he came in for Tahvon Campbell.

James Montgomery kept his place in goal ahead of Robert Sanchez after impressing in recent cup games.

Rovers made a flying start. Winchester made a brilliant run at goal but blazed his shot over from the edge of the box.

Forest Green had the better of the first half and thought they took the lead on 35 minutes when Theo Archibald drove the ball across goal and Williams looked to have tapped it in but Steven Old recovered well to clear off the line.

Morecambe did have one decent opportunity when Liam Mandeville fired in a shot but Montgomery did well to beat it away.

Rovers had the first chance of the second half when Archibald effortlessly skipped into the box, leaving defenders in his wake before arrowing a shot that went just wide.

Forest Green took control of the game in the second half.

They should have scored when Williams' low cross needed a toe on the end of it but Archibald couldn't quite get on the end of it. Reid then tried his luck with an early shot which Mark Halstead tipped over on the hour mark.

Cooper brought on Campbell for James as he looked to give Reid more support up top. He made a good impact and did well to get the better of Old and cut the ball across goal but again, nobody gambled.

Rovers continued to press but it was the visitors who got the goal against the run of play. Ball came into the Rovers box, Andrew Tutte had a shot which was blocked and fell to Aaron Wildig who fired into the roof of the net.

It was probably only the second time in the half Morecambe went anywhere near the Rovers area.

There was little time for a reply and Rovers fell to their second successive defeat.

Forest Green take on Oxford United on Tuesday night in the FA Cup replay.
