A round up of the latest results and news from Cirencester Golf Club.

Scratch Cup

Toby Harris has pulled off the elite players’ double in 2018 at Cirencester Golf Club by lifting the Scratch Cup.

Having won the 36-hole Club Championship in the summer, Toby has won through the knockout stages and final of the club’s second tournament for its A-List competitors. A number of other series played for during the season at the club have now been decided.

The Victor Ludorum is awarded to the player with the best combined record in the following seven competitions: Club Championship, Victory Cup, Bathurst Cup, Birthday Vase, Jubilee Cup, Douggie Rolles Trophy and Hospital Cup.

The 2018 winner was Jonathan Cowley. He was followed home in order by Toby Harris, Daimien McConnell, Clive Gray, Steve Bishop and Andy Bell.

Tom Waller has won the David Carroll Salver, awarded to the player with the best four gross scores in the monthly medals from April to September.

The five next best positions were held by Toby Harris, Chris Nevin, Paul Simpson, Nicholas Brown and Tom Montgomery.

The Captain’s and Vice Captain’s Salver of 2018 went to Tom Montgomery, who had the best four nett scores in the monthly medals from April to September.

Behind him came Paul Simpson, Tom Waller, Stuart Park, Chris Nevin and Chris Pollard.

Cotswolds Hills medal:

Cirencester pro Ed Goodwin’s solid par round of 72 at Cotswolds Hills in the latest Gloucester & Somerset PGA Medal was good enough to see off 26 rivals.

Unfortunately, that didn’t include his great rival Giuseppe ‘Spag’ Licata whose exceptional round of 68 won the day and tightened his grip on the Total Triumph Order Of Merit.

Goodwin knows the Ullenwood layout well from his younger days as an amateur and despite bemoaning his putting still carded five birdies, just like the winner.

Seniors’ Section:

Past and present members joined in a celebration of Peter Gillman’s 90th birthday at the club. A hale and hearty Peter gave a witty speech full of his golfing memories and anecdotes gathered over many years of service to the club and its members.

Ladies’ Section:

Halloween Horror Gruesome Greensomes

Sheila Westmacott and Liz Allen came out on top in the topical Halloween Horror Gruesome Greensomes last Thursday with 28 points.

This 14-hole competition was a Greensomes with a twist, the novelty being that the worst tee shot rather than the best one had to be used with playing partners then taking alternate shots.

This caused a great deal of hilarity and the format was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.

The runners-up were Mary Dobson and Bonnie Green (25), with Linda McIntosh & Helen Landau in third on the same score.
