Shrivenham 2

Hellenic Premier League

FAIRFORD Town’s unbeaten run came to an end with a frustrating home defeat to Shrivenham on Tuesday night writes Chris Tanner.

A goal in each half saw the visitors capitalise against ten man Fairford on a difficult night at Cinder Lane.

The hosts went into the game following an impressive 2-1 win against league leaders Brackley Town Saints on Saturday, but knew the visit of Shrivenham – with eight former Reds players in their starting line-up – would be a different contest altogether and so it proved as Fairford were unable to get into their stride.

Shrivenham took the lead on the half hour mark through a Danny Hale penalty.

The hosts were then reduced to ten men with 37 minutes on the clock when the experienced Jamie Reid was shown a straight red card following a mass confrontation.

The visitors wrapped up the game in the 88th minute when former Fairford man Dan Drewett got on the end of a free-kick to scramble the ball home.

Jody Bevan's remain in 14th place in the Hellenic Premier League despite the defeat.

Fairford are back in league action on Saturday when they take on struggling Tuffley Rovers, who are currently 17th, at Cinder Lane as they look to get back on track.

They also have a game on Tuesday, November 13 with another home league game against Flackwell Heath.
