Cirencester Town boss Charlie Griffin insists promotion is still the aim for the Centurions.

Griffin admitted his side's standards have slipped at times but has assured fans he won't allow that to continue.

Cirencester lie in 11th place in Evo-Stik Division One South but Griffin feels they are still capable of achieving promotion.

“After just missing out on the play-offs last season, promotion is our goal," insists Griffin. "There's a lot of expectation on the the team and people think we just have to turn up, but we have let ourselves go a bit, we will be back on it and we have a lot in the changing room.”

The Centurions didn't have a game at the weekend which allowed Griffin more time on the training pitch ahead of this weekend's game at home to 11th place Thatcham Town.

"We trained on Saturday morning and I had the boys in at 8am," said Griffin. "We know all about Thatcham, who are good at what they do, and their front-three are a real handful."

The Cirencester boss did take some encouragement from last week's game in the GFA Challenge Cup, a 3-2 defeat against National League South Gloucester City.

"We played really well and dominated possession," he added. "In parts of game we outplayed them. We should have gone on and won."
