Fairford 1 Bristol Telephones 0

MASON Thompson’s second half penalty was enough to see Fairford Town progress through to the next round of the GFA Trophy, as they overcame Bristol Telephones.

It was a competitive encounter, delayed by 15 minutes due to the visitors’ late arrival due to traffic problems.

The first chance of the game fell to Jamie Reid who latched onto a cutback from John Watson, but his effort flew over from the edge of the box. Ben Saunders then headed wide from a corner with the hosts putting a few chances together but were unable to break down a physical Bristol Telephones side.

After the break midfielder Dan Bailey went close with a curling effort from the edge of the box before the home side were awarded a spot-kick. Substitute and debutant Jay Morrison was brought down, with Thompson stepping up and slotting the ball into the bottom corner.

Morrison then had a chance to double the advantage but he fired over.

There were late returns from injury for Ben Lodge and Matt Boucher in the closing stages, as the Reds safely navigated over five minutes of added time to extend their unbeaten run to six games going into Saturday’s Challenge Cup game with AFC Aldermaston at Cinder Lane.
