Purton 1

Bemerton Heath 0

Wiltshire Senior Cup

Purton progressed in the Wiltshire Senior Cup with a narrow win over Bemerton Heath Harlequins on Saturday.

The hosts went into the fixture as significant underdogs what with the visitors being from a higher league level.

Purton had the best of the early chances with Cris Avery and Callum Little going close. The visitors forced a couple of good saves out of Purton keeper Chris Wells and Purton lost Callum Little after 28 with an injury and was replaced by pacey striker Daren Regis who after coming on made an instant impact but the score was level at half time.

The second half Purton picked up where they left off and continued to win battles all across the pitch again their senior opponents. Purton got the all important goal when Daren Regis low shot from 30 yards out travelled past an opposing defender and beat the keeper. Bemerton, shocked by the Purton goal, responded and threatened a couple of times but Purton always looked likely of grinding out a result and might have added another themselves when Chris Avery hit the bar on 80 minutes but they went on to claim the victory.

This win extended Purton's unbeaten run to seven games (six wins and a draw).
