Stratton Youth Round Up
Stratton Youth U/16s are still trying to settle into a higher division this season, Stratton hosted top of the table Wanborough U/16s at a very wet & windy Baunton Lane this week. Stratton struggled to get into the game from the kick off, and after only 5 minutes the visitors striker struck a cannon of a shot from the edge of the box, which the Stratton goalkeeper had no chance to keep out. A defensive mix up only a minute later gifted a tap in goal to Wanborough. Stratton then started to settle, and despite being under constant pressure, the defence and midfield stayed solid until the 25th minute, when the visitors were awarded a penalty, by former Stratton Youth player now a very good young referee Sam Lomas, which was converted. Another goal from Wanborough just before half time made the score four nil at the break. Despite a change of formation for the second half, and the return of team talisman Sonny Williamson, Stratton still struggled to contain a good Wanborough side. Conceding a further four goals, the last after the visitors had been reduced to ten men by a red card. Stratton can take from the game that they maintained their discipline, and kept battling to the last against a strong Wanborough side. Stratton’s Man of the Match is Harvey McCullie for his outstanding work rate in midfield and defence, which helped contain what could have been a much heavier defeat.
