Malmesbury Victoria boss Kev Bridgeman says he wouldn't stand in any player's way if a team from a higher level were to come in for them.

Vics striker Shane Bumphrey scored a hat-trick at the weekend to take his tally for the season to 13 goals.

Thankfully for Malmesbury, there's been no sign of any interest from elsewhere but Bridgeman admitted it's something that plays on the back of a manager's mind.

"There's always that concern," he said. "Teams are always looking for goalscorers and Shane's already well on his way to twenty. He's played at a higher level before so a Southern League side may take a look but me and Shane have a great relationship and I'd be the first to know and there's been no sign of anything."

Bumphrey missed the Subsidiary fixture with Cheltenham Saracens last night with a foot injury but Bridgeman is hoping to have him and a his captain back for the league game against Thornbury Town.

"Shane's got a foot injury but hopefully he'll be fit for Saturday. the league is priority so I'm happy to give players a rest if needed in the cup. We'll hopefully have captain Sam Parker back as well.

Malmesbury go into the Thornbury game on the back of a win at Chalvey Sports in the Challenge Cup but Bridgeman feels his side need to improve their performance if they're to win on Saturday and keep up the pressure at the top of Hellenic League Division One West.

"We had a good result against Chalvey but not a great performance," added Bridgeman. "It was a bit like the Clanfield game and was a bit ugly but sometimes you've got to do that.

"Thornbury are a strong team so we'll need to perform better than our last couple of games."
