Shane Bumphrey was once again the hero for Malmesbury Victoria as they returned to winning ways against Chalvey Sports in the Bluefin Sports Challenge Cup.

The Vics got off to a fine start and took the lead after 20 minutes as Bumphrey who got on the end of a driven low cross to finish at the bottom corner.

Chalvey were forced to put their interim manager in goal on the day which made life difficult for them.

The game was pretty tight for the rest of the first half but Malmesbury doubled their advantage on 55 minutes when a free kick was lofted in from the half way line and when Chalvey failed to clear their lines, Bumphrey was on hand to poke the ball in from five yards.

Chalvey got themselves back into it with arguably the goal of the game with 15 minutes to go when Kiran Quelch found to top corner from the edge of the box to set up a grandstand finish.

Chalvey thought they'd equalised five minutes later but the linesman chalked it off for offside.

Malmesbury wrapped the game up with eight minutes to go when they were awarded a penalty for handball and Bumphrey completed his hat-trick from the spot.
