Smiths 7

Cirencester 43

South West Division

Cirencester bounced back from their cup exit the last week with an emphatic win over Smiths to go top and maintain their 100% league start. The Whiteway men stormed into a 0-7 lead with the impervious Alex Hammond crashing over, for a fine individual try, with his brother Joe adding the conversion.

Straight from the kick off Ciren doubled their lead with the jinking Isoa Raione scoring, beating defenders on his way to the try line and once again Hammond added the conversion.

The away side were in confident mood, however a lapse in concentration allowed Smiths to gain some momentum and they eventually barged over to reduce the deficit to 7-14.

This did not deter Ciren though who's possession became quicker, which enabled the outside backs to gain big territory. The abrasive back row player Archie Doyle scored his sides third try after some good support work to make it 7-19.

With half time fast approaching and the home defence tiring, it was Ciren scrum half Sam Griffiths who took a quick tap penalty to score the final try of the half, giving Cirencester a 7-24 at the break.

The second half saw Ciren play their best rugby of the season. The improving Ciren hooker Scott Cannon scored out wide after a great off load from Hammond as they extended their lead further.

The heat began to take its toll on some of the home players and Ciren full back Zeb Waite took full advantage with a terrific try under the post, with Archie Doyle adding the conversion.

The final try for the Cotswold club came from Ben Ramsey and quick winger used his fine physical attributes to score to wrap up the bonus point victory. It was an eight try victory and a small step forward for a promising, Cirencester side, with some notable performances which included the Ciren skipper Oliver Newman orchestrating the side from fly half with great authority, allowing his side to flourish.

Elsewhere, Cirencester RFC seconds won 38-21 against Huccelcote RFC seconds

The result was Ciren's second win on the bounce which moved them up second place in their district league.

The second team travel to Drybrook RFC thirds which will represent another tough game, one they will enter in confident mood after this win.
