Cirencester Golf Club

September Medal

THE cream rose to the top in the September Medal at Cirencester Golf Club with Chas Harraway winning with a net 66 off his handicap of 2.

Harraway, who is brother to Ciren assistant pro James and a former pro himself, has been playing for the Gloucestershire county 2nd team and he maintained that form on Sunday.

He birdied four of the first five holes and added two more for good measure towards the end of his round to post the lowest gross of the day, 68 (three-under-par).

But he needed the help of countback to edge out high handicappers Tim Attwood (66) and Sandy Campbell (66) with Chris Pollard (67) finishing an honourable fourth.

RESULTS

Division One: Chas Harraway (68-2-66); Colin Ricks (79-9-70); Neil Crowther (80-9-71); Mark Foster (73-2-71).

Knowle Medal

THERE were good displays from both Cirencester Golf Club representatives, Ed Goodwin and Mitch Caunt, at the opening medal of the Gloucester & Somerset PGA season held at the Knowle Golf Club near Bristol.

Ed shot a one-under-par 69 to finish fourth and Mitch was just a shot back which left him in a tie for fifth.

As for Cirencester Ladies Golf Club, it's been a busy couple of weeks for the Ladies Golf Section.

Firstly they played the Macmillan Cancer Spoon Qualifying Stableford. This was won by Jess Brown with 37 points, Jan Flynn taking 2nd with 34 and Julie Clough taking 3rd with 32. 2 birdies were recorded and a healthy donation was made to a very good cause.

On the Sunday, the ladies played foursomes for the Carroll Salver. This was strokeplay medal format and was won by the consistent pairing of Emma Brereton and Pam Mallinson with a score of 76, 2nd were Muriel Telling and Sheila Telling with 76.5 and 3rd were Karen Pracey-Jennings and Chris Park with 78.5 points.

After this busy weekend, 39 ladies went on the Lady Captains Away Day on Monday to The Kendleshire. This was a brilliant day and a great Waltzing Bowmaker was played in brilliant sunshine.

The winners were Bonnie Green, Sheila Lowbridge and Val Bowley with 39 points. The ladies stayed at the club for an excellent meal and small prizegiving where it was announced that between us, we had lost the grand total of 108 golf balls. Perhaps a record, but certainly a present for all the fish in the ponds and lakes.

On Thursday 31 ladies then played the Autumn Scrutton. This was won by Jae Berens with the score of 76 on countback from Kath Burbage, 3rd place being taken by Liz Hutchinson with 77 points. Jacqui Barcelon recorded a 2 on the 2nd and 3 birdies were hung on the tree.

On Saturday, in the most glorious weather, the ladies played their last medal of the year. Division 1 was won by Emma Brereton with an excellent round scoring 74 and returning the lowest gross score. She also recorded 3 birdies which resulted with plenty of high fives on the greens with her playing partners!!

In second was Kate Dymoke with 76. Division 2 was won by Jan Stephens with 75 and 2nd was Debbie Chesworth on countback from Pam Mallinson.
