ROVERS finally found their form to secure their first home league win of the season in an entertaining 3-1 victory over Coventry City.

The players looked up for it from the start but had to weather an early storm from the visitors, who could have taken an early lead were it not for a couple of brilliant saves from Bonham.

We hit back against the run of play and Reilly, selected to partner Nichols up front, capitalised on some poor Coventry defending to give the Gas the lead with a clinical finish.

Our lead was doubled in the 19th minute as a Lines free kick found Lockyer unmarked who made no mistake with the header.

The players were showing the energy, drive and commitment that had been lacking so far this season and were producing some excellent passing football.

We probably created more chances in the opening 20 minutes than we have all season and we looked an attacking force once again.

Ollie Clarke scored the best goal of the game in the 23rd minute as he rifled home an unstoppable shot from outside the area.

It capped an outstanding performance from the young midfielder as he looked a class act throughout the contest, winning tackles, marauding forward and passing confidently.

The Sky Blues got a goal back just before half time with a header to ensure we wouldn’t be resting on our laurels, but we remained in control in the second half.

It was a professional display for the rest of the game as we restricted Coventry’s chances while still looking dangerous ourselves.

There were many positives to draw from the game as the formation and line-up suited the players and it was interesting to note that Reilly was the only summer signing to make the starting line-up.

Defensively we looked solid and the strength of the midfield enabled the attackers to thrive.

That was in no small part down to the return of the inspirational Stuart Sinclair, who covered every blade of grass despite just returning from a long-term injury.

The result lifted the Pirates up to 17th place, with a trip to Bradford City next up on Saturday followed by another away game next Tuesday at Rochdale.
