Abingdon United 2

Fairford Town 3

FAIRFORD Town overturned a 2-0 half-time deficit to win their first Hellenic Premier Division game of the season at Abingdon United in a crucial bottom of the table clash writes Chris Tanner.

John Thomas scored the winner four minutes into injury-time to secure a valuable victory for the Cinder Lane side.

The hosts had taken the lead just nine minutes into the game before a second goal ten minutes later, as Abingdon took charge in what looked like being another defeat for Fairford. Harrison Ellis, playing only his second game for Fairford, made several good saves before half-time to keep the score at 2-0.

However, a much improved second half display saw Mason Thompson reduce the arrears with 20 minutes left on the clock, firing home an impressive free-kick.

Ben Lodge then struck the equaliser from close range five minutes later as Jody Bevan's men seized the momentum having gained much needed confidence from their second half turnaround.

A goalmouth scramble in the dying embers of game saw Thomas get on the end of the loose ball to hammer home and secure the three points.

Fairford remain bottom despite the win.
