PLAYER-COACH Aaron Nell has no issues icing either Michael Crisp or Tyler Perre in goal for Swindon Wildcats’ Autumn Trophy double-header against Sheffield Steeldogs this weekend.

In the absence of Renny Marr, who was handed a ban for the weekend during last Sunday’s 3-2 defeat to Hull Pirates, Nell will have to opt for a back-up netminder to feature as they continue their Trophy campaign.

Crisp provides a more experienced option, but Nell may elect to go for teenager Perre as the Cats make the long trip north first up.

With a decision to make on his netminder, Nell says his side will remain unmoved in their attempts to win the game, despite the absence of Marr between the pipes.

“After the game on Sunday, Renny apologised to the players and he knew he made a mistake, but we all do make them,” said Nell.

“He over-reacted and it was a penalty. He’s been so good for us and I think people forget how young he is. He’s a great goalie and a very good young man.

“We have to bounce back. We are in a tough spot, so it’s going to be good to see how we react – I know the players will be as motivated as ever.

“They need to prove that we can be a good team without Renny, so we are going to play hard. Our goals don’t change going into the weekend.”

Historically, the Cats have had little success in Sheffield, but Nell is hoping his side can buck the trend this Saturday.

A day later, the Cats welcome the Steeldogs to the Link Centre, where the game will begin at the earlier time of 4pm.

Nell said: “It’s a really hard start to the season, but the weekend we just had against Hull is the reason we play.

“You want to play the teams from the north, you don’t want to play in games when you know what the score is going to be.

“Logistically, it has a difference because we are used to playing at home on Saturday but in our situation, especially with Renny being out, I think it could help us.”
