On Saturday I took the easy option and made use of the Live streaming facility to watch the game at Morecambe. In the end the faithful 300 who did make the 500 mile round trip were well rewarded by seeing Swindon notch up their first away win and first clean sheet of the season.

I must admit it was a good viewing experience, with an excellent accompanying commentary – the fixed camera was in a lower position than normal, so you appeared to be closer to the pitch, and my view was very similar to that from my seat in the Arkell’s stand. The other similarity was that you did not have the benefit of any action replays!

Once again Town made it hard for themselves. After going in front with a well taken goal by Elijah Adebayo, Swindon shot themselves in the foot when wing back Kyle Knoyle was instantly dismissed for a rash high tackle. This meant we were reduced to playing with 10 men – again – for an hour. Despite this, in the second half, Swindon had at least two one-on-one chances to put the game to bed. Substitute McGlashan and Adebayo both should have scored to save us from a nail-biting final 15 minutes.

Towards the end it was back to the wall stuff again from the visitors, but they weathered the storm well – with central defenders Sid Nelson and loanee debutant Luke Woolfenden doing particularly well in difficult circumstances.

There were several fine individual displays from the Town players who certainly deserved their three points. Luke McCormick, deputising in goal for Lawrence Vigouroux, made two or three wonderful saves to keep the home side at bay, and looked solid throughout. Steve Alzate showed his creative flair constantly and Jak McCourt gave a commanding display in the middle of the park with some great tackling and distribution. Adebayo was excellent, holding the ball up well and making some good runs.

Bury are the visitors to the County Ground next Saturday and they are the sort of opposition that Town must put to the sword if they are to mount a serious challenge.

It will be interesting to see how the midfield looks for that game – with Diagouraga and Dunne available again after suspension, Phil Brown will have a wider choice, but certainly it would be a travesty if either McCourt or Alzate had to step down. And, with the manager’s emphasis on the importance of competition for places, McCormick should still be between the sticks.
