Cirencester Town 2-2 Moneyfields

In what is thought to be their first ever match against Portsmouth based Moneyfields FC the home side had to come from behind twice to take a share of the points writes David Pyzer.

Cirencester started the game very positively but after five minutes they were a goal down after the visitors managed to pinch the ball to release former Centurion Felipe Barcelos who tucked the ball inside the right post.

The home side reacted well to this setback as they pressed forward with many efforts at the target and shortly after the mid-point of the half Alan Griffin levelled with a trademark header from a corner kick.

During this period Moneyfields had to rely on counter attacks and one brought a fine save from Matt Wieczorek as he pushed Lloyd Rowlatt’s effort round his left post.

Despite plenty of possession Cirencester were unable to add to their tally and the sides went to the break all square.

The early part of the second half saw Moneyfields pressing and just after the hour they doubled their score as Lloyd Rowlatt was played through and he made no mistake from 12 yards.

Three minutes later Cirencester equalised again when Aidan Bennett sent a low cross to the front edge of the 6 yard box for Ben Whitehead to finish.

With the bit between their teeth Cirencester pressed forward to finish strongly but they couldn’t get that vital goal that would secure the three points.

The draw sees Cirencester lie in fifth place in the league.
