Highworth 0-3 Cirencester Town

Cirencester Town made it back to back wins over the Bank Holiday with a comfortable win away at Highworth Town on Monday in the Southern League writes Dave Pyzer.

In an end-to-end first half both sides had their moments and whilst Highworth struck the underside of the cross-bar, it was Cirencester that took the lead shortly before the interval when Ben Whitehead converted a penalty kick.

As the half progressed Chris Taylor began to orchestrate the midfield for the home side and as a result Darren Jefferies was seeing plenty of the ball to make charging runs down the left flank.

The second half saw Cirencester threaten early on as Whitehead slipped the ball round an advancing Connor Johns but before he could collect Rory Sproule managed to recover and clear the danger.

As the game entered the final 15 minutes Whitehead pressed in the left corner and managed to lay the ball back to Aidan Bennett whose ‘cross-shot’ dropped inside the top right corner.

Cirencester added a third when a throw into the box fell to Henry Spalding who calmly finished.

The Centurions have also progressed to the FA Cup first qualifying round after hammering Windsor 5-0 on Saturday. They have been drawn against 10th tier AFC Stoneham away from home and will be played the weekend of Saturday, September 8.

Their next game is at home to Moneyfields on Saturday.
