THE spectacular new 18th hole at Cirencester Golf Club was officially opened on the Sunday of Club Championship weekend.

Six teams of four, representing the President, the Captain, the Ladies, the Seniors, the Juniors and the Professionals, played down the par four hole with members asked to guess the aggregate distances of the lead-off players’ drives. Their efforts raised money for various club charities.

Despite Ed Goodwin smashing his tee shot more than 330 yards down the fairway, the ladies’ quartet of Kate Dymoke, Chris Park, Jan Flynn and Fiona Fyfe, matched the textbook par of the professionals’ quartet playing alternate shots.

The 18th hole has now reverted to the original signature design produced by five-times Open Championship winner and prolific course architect James Braid when he created the course in 1910.
