South Cerney Golf Club round-up

South Cerney 3½ Rodway Hill 2½

South Cerney Seniors gained some measure of revenge for their defeat in the reverse fixture back in April, beating Rodway Hill Seniors at home by 3½ to 2½.

Defeats for Chris Huckle and Dave Buckley (7&6) and Colin Bulley and Len Beale (2&1) in the opening matches were soon forgotten as Phil Stansfield and John Quick (3&2), Alan Martin and Colin Hawkins (2&1) and Walter Sutherland and Trevor Jordan (2 up) were quickly followed by a half from Dave Fletcher and Rod German to secure the match.

Woodbridge Park 3 South Cerney 3

Playing with only 11 golfers, South Cerney battled to an honourable 3-3 draw away at Woodbridge Park.

Particular praise goes to Nigel Rawlings who, despite playing solo against two opponents, secured a notable half.

Roy Baldwin Trophy

The annual Roy Baldwin Trophy was played in benign conditions with scores reflecting the weather and the improved greens.

Andy Taylor took the Trophy with a net score of 66, just pipping Andy Hughes and Bob Owen who both finished on 67.

Stinchcombe Hill Seniors Open

Several South Cerney Seniors made their way over to the beautiful surroundings of Stinchcombe Hill on the edge of the Cotswolds to take part in their Open competition, and three of them were rewarded by picking up the first three places in Division 2.

Phil Stansfield emerged as the eventual winner with 36 points, closely followed by Frankie Shaw and Tom McLean.

Ladies Section

The Ladies’ June Midweek Medal was won on countback by Chris Mitchell with a net score of 73 playing off 17, just pipping Brenda Smith with the same net score, and playing off 18.

Meanwhile, the Weekend Medal was won by Liz Lloyd off a handicap of 27, with a net 79 ahead of Sarah Conway in second place. Liz also won the weekend Stableford with 31 points, on countback from Jayne Hopkins, also scoring 31 points.
