CIRENCESTER Men’s 1st XI were unable to suppress a lively and fast Lansdown side and despite a quality goal from schoolboy Alex Dennett, numerous scoring opportunities were squandered.

Lansdown’s tactical nous of defending deep and hitting on the counter attack paid dividends. Keeper Dave Webb produced numerous shot stops and despite winning the Man of the Match award, the side lost 5-1.

THE 2nd XI produced a promising performance against unbeaten league leaders, Cheltenham. Having dominated the first half, Cheltenham scored from their only penalty corner late in the first half. With their tails up another Cheltenham penalty corner was converted compared to Cirencester failing to score from eight attempts. The side needs to find the goal-scoring habit if they are to challenge the league leaders.

THE 3rd XI were unable to subdue a young, fit and keen Evesham & Badsey side. Defender Bill Birkett made the headlines for the wrong reasons by scoring two own goals. 2-0 at half time and Cirencester rallied with a goal from Ed Hastie-Smith but immediately conceded. In the final ten minutes, Evesham’s superior fitness resulted in three further goals running out 6-1 winners.

HAVING conceded four goals in the first half Cirencester’s 4th team rallied well in the second against Evesham & Badsey’s 2nd XI. The second half was a tighter affair, but Evesham were still able to add a further goal without reply, winning 5-0.
