Malmesbury Vics 2
Calne Town 1

MALMESBURY VICS maintained their good form of late in defeating local rivals Calne Town 2-1 at The Flying Monk.

In tough conditions, with heavy rain and a boggy pitch to contend with, chances were at a premium early on as the hosts dominated possession.

Just before the break the Vics were awarded a penalty after Jamie Packer was brought down under a clumsy challenge. Ant Brown was on hand to dispatch the penalty to the top left corner.

The second half turned into an old fashioned battle with Matty Jenkins getting his head and body in front of everything Calne chucked at him.

In the 54th minute the Vics went 2-0 up when a cross from the left by Tyler Quinnell was headed home by a diving Scott Reynolds.

The visitors did respond with 15 minutes left through Stuart Windsor from the penalty spot after George Peare was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the area, which set up a nervy finish.

Marcus Lovesey nearly snatched a point at the death for Calne but was denied by a superb interception from captain Peare.
