JUST AS it looked as though Swindon Town would draw their first away game of the season they deservedly clinched all three points with a late winner at Yeovil, writes Pete Mitchell.

Town lined up with Luke Norris and Johnny Goddard starting in place of Kaiyne Woolery and the injured Amine Linganzi, so they obviously came seeking more than the single point.

Once again their support on the road was impressive with more than 1,100 – almost a third of the meagre attendance – making the long cross-country trip.

Things again started badly for Swindon when after only four minutes Rhys Browne weaved past Matt Taylor and his goalbound effort was seemingly deflected past Reice Charles-Cook. The muted cheers from the home fans were mocked by the travelling support. "Are we in a library?" they sang.

This certainly woke Town up and they created several good moves and efforts on goal during the ensuing 40 minutes. Swindon's dominance was emphasised by the fact that the home side didn't manage their second shot on goal until two minutes before half-time when Charles-Cook saved well from a long range Tom James free kick.

An equaliser almost came right on the whistle when Timi Elsnik's precisely-placed header was palmed away by Artur Krysiak.

I would imagine the dressing room talk at the break included something like 'this game's here for the taking lads'.

Town indeed started the second half as they had left off and looked a class above Yeovil with lots of slick cross field passing. The hosts could offer little other than sporadic quick breaks which failed to cause much anxiety to the Town defence.

Swindon's constant pressure paid off just after the hour and it was started by a superb quick throw-out by Charles-Cook who found substitute Kellan Gordon on the halfway line. His pace took him to the box and after Goddard's initial effort was parried by Krysiak, Gordon finished the job after a short pass from Keshi Anderson.

A minute from the end Town's endeavour and pressure paid off after good work from substitute Woolery on the left. His ball into the goal area was well finished off by Anderson to the unrestrained delight of the visitors' players and fans.

This was a victory that definitely wouldn't have occurred last season when I'm sure the Town would have capitulated after such an early setback.

The unexplained mystery surrounding Lawrence Vigouroux's absence now seems academic as he did finally appear on the bench.

Swindon are back in action again on Tuesday with a long trip to Grimsby.

Even a point there to keep the impressive unbeaten run going would be more than welcome.

The worry now is that Elsnik, forced off at Yeovil due to a muscle strain, has added to Town's midfield woes with Donal McDermott and Amine Linganzi also nursing injuries.
