South Cerney 3 ½ Minchinhampton Old Course 2 ½
THE home side approached this encounter with Minchinhampton with some confidence following the previous week’s victory over Cirencester, but the match turned out to be nip and tuck throughout, and was only decided when the final pairings halved.
The eventual result was a victory for the home team by 3½ to 2½, a mirror image of South Cerney’s defeat at Minchinhampton three weeks earlier.
Three matches were halved: Captain Dave Mitchell and John Quick shared the spoils in the opening match with Steve Earley and Mike Longley; John Abbott and Andy Taylor halved with Paul Neale and Minchinhampton Vice Captain John Nutting; and Rod German and Dave Taylor ensured the result went South Cerney’s way by halving the final match against Derrick Bray and Colin Vigar.
Home victories were secured by Walter Sutherland and Phil Stansfield (see photo) 3&2 over Bob Goode and Roy Townsend, whilst Ian Haslam and Chris Huckle enjoyed a more comfortable 5&3 win over Geoff Allen and Bert Ginger.
Minchinhampton’s only success came when Terry Allen and Mike Bullock beat Peter Curnock and Dave Mountford 2&1.
