TEN-YEAR-OLD Henry Sheffield of Cirencester AC battled his way on to the podium twice during a stellar weekend.

Saturday saw Henry finishing third, beating 236 others, in his Year 5 age group at the National Schools’ Cross Country Championships at Loughborough.

But on Sunday he struck gold at the British Schools Modern Biathlon Championships.

Henry, already ranked first in his Under-11 age group, won the title for the second year running.

He demonstrated his potential and the value of the club's junior coaching yet again by finishing the competition at Crystal Palace with an improved score of 2,696.

Despite a tough cross country race the day before Henry was still able to knock one and half seconds off his best 50m swim time and more than nine seconds from the 800m run. Older brother Archie had to swim and run a lot further in finishing a satisfactory 25th at the same national championships in the U13 age group, while Sebastian Forrest came 34th in the U10s.
