Ashton Keynes 2 Wheatsheaf 2
ASHTON KEYNES played out a hard-fought draw on Saturday against a strong Wheatsheaf side, writes Richard Sutton.
The first half was relatively tight but a clearance from an Ashton corner resulted in the ball being played over the top and Dave Rendle beating Ben Chadwick to the ball and nodding it into an empty net.
In the second half Ashton came out fighting and Darren Swadden won a penalty after his shot was blocked with a hand. Swadden powerfully converted the spot kick in the 57th minute.
Ashton were then on the front foot for the remainder of the second half, carving out many opportunities before Dean Wilson rifled the ball high into the roof of the net to make it 2-1 in the 71st minute.
Ashton then failed to put the game to bed, failing to show the composure required in the final third.
Wheatsheaf, through Chris Hatter, scrambled the ball home with five minutes to go for a share of the points.
A big thank you to James Lally who stepped in to referee the game after there was no league referee allocated.
Ashton now have a week off before travelling to Bibury Reserves on October 8.
