GLOUCESTERSHIRE remain in a strong position to qualify for the quarter-finals of the NatWest T20 Blast after the abandonment of their match against Hampshire.
Gloucestershire currently lie in third place in the South Group, just two points off the summit, but when the game was called off due to a wet outfield that virtually ended the hosts' chances of getting out the group.
Hampshire are now rooted to the bottom of the division with just a single win in nine matches – with little hope of reaching a seventh successive Finals Day.
The players got as far as their fielding positions, after Hampshire had won the toss and elected to bowl against Gloucestershire, following a delayed start.
But another deluge and lightning eventually forced umpires Alex Wharf and Steve Gale to abandon the game – with puddles standing on the outfield.
Tino Best was left out of the game following an incident in which he allegedly intentionally threw a ball at Essex batsman Ashar Zaidi in Friday night’s game.
Gloucestershire play Sussex at Arundel tomorrow (Sunday) with a 2.30pm start.
