PUPILS at Lea and Garsdon Primary School in Malmesbury learnt about road safety and being healthy when they completed a five-mile circular walk from Lea to Malmesbury.

The walk on June 10 was part of Brake’s Giant Walk initiative, an annual event where thousands of children across the UK go on walks to find out about the benefits of walking and fast driving that threatens childrens' safety.

Kay Vousden, headteacher of the school, said: “Around 80 pupils took part in the Lea to Malmesbury walk. We stopped off at the park at St Aldhelm Mead and the children were treated to lollies and ice creams purchased by the school Parent Teacher Association.

“When we stopped off at Waitrose for the lollies, the staff were so impressed by the children’s efforts that they gave us some for free. “All in all it was a great success, a wonderful walk through the countryside which also taught the children some important lessons about road safety.

Children from the youngest class took part in a 1.5 mile round trip from school to the village park where they also enjoyed ice lollies.
