WITH the election of an MP for the Cotswolds and councillors to Cotswold District Council standing in Cirencester coming up on May 7 we are entitled to ask them where they stand on probably the most important issue affecting our town in decades.
They should answer these questions:
- Where do you stand on Cotswold District Council's Local Plan proposal to allow almost the entire burden for new housing in the Cotswolds to be placed on one single site in Chesterton?
- Do you agree that such a burden is unfair and illogical and will change our town for the worse in many ways?
- If elected will you align yourself with the 'saveourcirencester'' campaign and the overwhelming majority of Cirencester people and do all you can to prevent this ill considered development going ahead ?
Prospective councillors, irrespective of which political party you represent, you will be considered at best disingenuous and probably worse, unless you can be candid on your position at the hustings, in your doorstep conversations, electoral literature and public statements.
Most of you have been beating around the bush waiting for the election to be over. Let's hear from you now before we cast our votes.
