IN RESPONSE to the letter A high eco-cost (Standard, August 7) I would like to reassure the Rev Dr Henderson that since 2008 we have reduced the total amount of water we take from the Baunton aquifer, by an average of five million litres a day.
Before 2008 we could take six million litres of water a day from Baunton when the River Churn was in low flow. Now, we stop abstracting when the flow in the river reduces, and this year we stopped taking water on July 30. Any new demand from housing developments is met by water pumped from Farmoor reservoir, which is fed from the River Thames.
STEVE TUCK,
Thames Water
