COUNCILLOR Nash, in his letter of November 6, has missed the main point of my letter. It is my understanding that the town council is considering borrowing over £1m to help to fund the Market Place scheme thus committing the people of Cirencester to 50 - yes, 50 - years of debt (his words).
The point I am trying to make is that IF the town council borrows money, I believe the residents would rather it was spent on flood alleviation instead of the Market Square.
My letters are written in a personal capacity and have nothing to do with my role on Cotswold District Council which incidentally has minimal statutory responsibility for flooding as the county council is the local lead authority with the Environment Agency having prime responsibility for the river in Cirencester.
SIR EDWARD HORSFALL Cirencester.
