ABOUT 50 homes in villages near Malmesbury were left without power after electricity cables were blown down by high winds in the wake of Hurricane Gonzalo.

The cables came down at the A429 Kemble Business Park, near Oaksey, on October 21, closing the road to the village for several hours.

The fault, which also affected homes in Crudwell, Kemble, Kemble Wick and South Cerney, was logged just before 3.30pm.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Power Distribution had hoped electricity would be back on within a couple of hours but power was not restored until 8pm.
