Sam Thompson left fans in hysterics after Sunday's I'm a Celebrity episode, as he enthusiastically leapt into the other contestants' arms as he greeted them for the first time.

Although Sam won over much of the Twittersphere, not everyone found his antics endearing.

The Made In Chelsea star, 31, is in a relationship with former Love Islander Zara McDermott.

Zara had only recently come off Strictly Come Dancing, not long before Sam had to fly off to Australia to start the ITV show.

Before entering the jungle, Sam said: "I am so excited about taking part in I'm A Celebrity, it still feels like a dream. I feel like a competition winner taking part. It was an absolute resounding 'yes' when I got approached.

"In fact, they didn't even need to ask! I am a huge fan of the show. Ant and Dec are my idols too and it's going to be really surreal meeting them."

And that excitement has clearly made it's way to screen. Sam has been compared to Buddy the Elf and an overexcited puppy so far this year.

Some misery guts, however, have not found Sam's love of life entertaining.

"Sam Thompson is already annoying me. Stop hugging people like they’ve just come home from war #ImACeleb", one bitter user said.

Someone else posted: "Sam Thompson has to be the most annoying bloke around, can’t stand him #ImACeleb"

"Sam Thompson should be protected at all costs!"

That said, fans of Sam defended him to the hilt.

One passionate user said: "If I see hate about Sam Thompson being too enthusiastic I’m going to RIOT, he’s been so open about his struggles with ADHD and autism and he seems so genuinely kind #ImACeleb".

Another said: "Honestly who wouldn't want to be hugged by Sam Thompson #ImACeleb".

Whilst one commenter pleaded: "Sam Thompson is an absolute cutie and should be protected at all costs! He’s so genuine and real! #ImACeleb".
