A CIRENCESTER centenarian celebrated her 100th birthday with her loving family and enjoyed receiving cards from Brazil and the USA, as well as a special message from Buckingham Palace.

Joan Leeson turned 100 on Monday, February 19 and was delighted to be joined by her friends and family for the occasion.

A group of family members arrived in a surprise visit from Devon and a steady supply of tea, coffee and delicious cakes kept everyone in high spirits.

A lifelong Cirencester resident, Mrs Leeson used to live in a cottage on Cheltenham Road, with her sister next door and brother just down the road.

She was the manager of Woolworths in Cirencester for many years and now lives in Paternoster House Care Home.

Mrs Leeson used to be greatly involved in Stratton Church as her son David was the vicar and she would always go to church with him for various services.

Among her cards was one from the parishioners at Stratton Church and a card and gift was presented to her by staff and residents at Paternoster House.

She also received an official telegram from the Queen who sent her congratulations and best wishes on the special occasion.
