The Queen’s and Acorns Nursery School 60 years combined Jubilee fete. Parents and children join together to celebrate the nursery’s 60 year history. Crafts and snacks. Ex-Acornians welcome. Acorns Nursery, Park Street, 2-5pm, Friday, June 1.

Saturday, June 2

Royal connections exhibition, Bingham Gallery, Dyer Street, 10am-2pm. Free admission. Paintings, photographs and the Millennium Embroideries reveal the royal connections enjoyed by Cirencester from Alfred to Elizabeth II.

Jubilee Weekend Family Activities at Abbey Home Farm, Burford Road, include Junior Farmers - visit the milking parlour, help feed the pigs and piglets, collect and grade eggs and feed the ducks; night walk; woodland cookery and nature art. Jubilee weekend banner festival, Ashcroft Methodist/URC Church, 10am-4pm. Also Sunday noon-4pm. Banners made by members of the church will be displayed and the church will be decorated for the Jubilee. Children's activities 2pm-4pm both days. Free entry and programme. Refreshments. Sunday, June 3

The Bear Inn will host a street party from 1pm. Bring your own sandwiches or add to their food. Face painting and a disco outside followed by an evening disco from 8pm-12.30am.

Monday, June 4

Jubilee Picnic in the Park. Celebrations start with a procession from Brewery Car Park at 12.30pm to Abbey Grounds where a Picnic in the Park gets underway from 1pm with stalls, food, games, rides and music from the bandstand. A mini pageant celebrating Cirencester through the ages begins at the bandstand at 3pm followed by local bands from 5pm until 9.20pm. A torchlight procession takes place at 9.30pm followed by opera singer Maria Jagusz.

A newspaper stacking challenge takes place in the Abbey Grounds at 12.30pm when people have six hours to beat a world record set ten years ago during Cirencester's Golden Jubilee celebrations. Entry forms available from the town council.

Live music from four piece jazz ensemble Swing From Paris, performing in pub garden at Golden Cross, with special Jubilee cream teas served throughout. Further details from 01285 652137.

Tuesday, June 5

Jubilee Ball, Bingham Hall, 7.30pm. Black tie event organised by the Cirencester Licensed Victuallers Association. Band and disco. Tickets £30, includes a champagne and canape reception and fork buffet. Book at Bees Knees (652112), Somewhere Else or The Wheatsheaf.
