A GOOD day was had by nearly all of 110 solo riders that took part in 63 races in Sunday's event staged at Dauntsey by the Swindon Adult Grasstrack Club.

The weather was by and large kind and, despite the odd shower, very few accidents occurred.

In fact, Bridgwater's Anthony Powers (32) became the first injury over the bumpy turn four.

In the Restricted class, Steven Taylor had a fine win and will surely move up to National Status soon.

Scott Pearce was a good performer while Derren Harris looked like a man on a mission.

In the National solos, Tim Nobes rode brilliantly for his win. Richard Knight was chasing hard all the way and Phil Ashcroft gained another useful result.

Lee Street came into good form in the 250cc, just in time for the British Championship at the end of the month.

James Childe made his long drive worth while and Shane Howells looked impressive on the new Honda four-stroke RTS.

In the 350cc, Matt Etherington won six races in a row, surely another contender for National honours at Worcester.

Lee Gayden led for half-a-lap in the final, but the writing was on the wall when Etherington went past.

In pre-'75 350cc, Roger Taylor won his first heat, but took it more gently in other races to conserve energy for his win in the final.

Of the competing local riders, wily old campaigner Dave Hammond, from South Cerney, showed why he is the master of the pre-'75 500cc class.

However, Hammond later suffered with a mechanical failure in the Restricted Class.

The spectacular open final saw Richard Knight, who had won the semis, beating Tim Nobes, who made a bad start and could not catch the flying Knight.

Robert Hunt, from Swindon, rode well all day but, unfortunately, did not make the final.

And Matt Keen, from Cirencester, one of the younger competitors, did very well against more experienced riders.

Kevin Akers, from Nailsworth, finished a very good fifth in the restricted. Wootton Bassett's Craig Godwin rode well, but did not make the finals, while Cirencester's Phil Harris finished a commendable sixth in the Open.
