A COTSWOLD pensioner famed for her daredevil antics is celebrating her diamond-wedding anniversary with a relaxing break in Scotland.

Margaret Scrivens, 79, and husband Francis, 82, a life-long farmer, will celebrate their 60th anniversary today in Perth, home to son Malcolm and his wife Janice.

They will also be joined by their granddaughter Kelly and one-year-old great-grandson Leon.

Margaret has raised £18,000 for good causes, particularly cancer charities, with her daring stunts.

The Chedworth pensioner hit the headlines after she twice both wing-walked and parachuted from airfields in the Cotswolds.

She was diagnosed with cancer of the throat more than 30 years ago and despite being told she had just two months to live proved the doctors wrong.

The inspirational lady swelled funds for children with leukaemia at Great Ormond Street Hospital and other good causes including the Gloucestershire Air Ambulance, Cheltenham General Hospital's cancer patients and the Springy Appeal for disabled children.

And in 2006 she was formerly acknowledged for her courageous fundraising efforts with a Gloucestershire Medal for Courage nomination.

Adventurous Margaret has also just finished her eighth book of poems. Over 20 years her winning words have raised £2,000 for St Andrew's Church at Chedworth, Cirencester Hospital and Rendcomb Surgery.

Margaret, originally from Colesbourne, recalls how she met her husband, who lived just a few miles away in Withington, in 1947.

She was working as assistant sub-postmistress at Colesborne post office.

"We always used to go dancing in an old tin shed at the bottom of a garden," she laughed.

"We only had a small wedding in Colesborne with about 80 or so people and we had the reception in the village hall," she added.

The couple later moved to Chedworth where they have lived for the past 35 years.

"The secret to a happy marriage is forgiving ‘em, you’ve got to take the falling in with the falling out," she said, "we’ve been happy all our lives."

Margaret said the couple loves their visits to Scotland. "Francis is more excited about going up to Scotland than the anniversary!" she said.

But the doting husband said: "I'd had my eye on Marg before we started courting – I come up trumps every time."
