THE Standard can reveal that the name of the Malmesbury binman crushed to death in Fairford last week is Ian Moody.

The 52-year-old SITA employee is thought to have been trapped between bins and his lorry on Thursday morning.

Emergency services were called to Aldsworth Close, Fairford just before 10am.

Mr Moody, nicknamed "Chipper", was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police, firemen and health and safety officers were on site for several hours after the accident.

Several local residents witnessed the incident and some were so traumatised they have since received counselling.

SITA are the waste contractors for Cotswold District Council.

A CDC spokesman said today: "We have extended our sympathy to SITA and have asked them to pass on our condolences to their employee’s family. "Some of our staff knew the victim well and have praised his positive attitude and affable nature. He will be sorely missed by many friends and colleagues at the council.

"We are also standing by to offer any help SITA may require at this difficult time. We will, of course, assist in any enquiries arising from this incident."
