IT HAS been a good week all round with nine goals in two games.

When we are feeling confident, we are a decent side.

We are used to the wind at Cirencester but the rain as well made the conditions appalling, so it was a great credit to both sides that they had a good go.

I said to them at half-time that the game was drifting away from us. As the league’s top scorers, and playing at home, we should have been forcing the issue more.

We are set up to win games with three up front and we did get two goals ahead – the issue is always what we do when we haven’t got the ball and their second goal infuriated me.

Okay, they broke quickly from our corner, but we had four back against their two and we didn’t get a touch. Within four passes, the ball was in the back of our net, To come back and get the winner after that showed the character in the side. You cannot question their heart and endeavour – they don’t know when they are beaten.

But the grandstand finish should have been unnecessary.

When we put six past Hayes – and it could have been nine – their manager told me that Ciren were not the best team they had played this season, but we were the hardest working. I was chuffed to bits with that.

Last season you could not say that. We had a soft underbelly and we didn’t have the same work ethic. Now it is the opposite.

Thommo had to come off when he felt his hamstring getting tight. He’s had a groin problem and now it is his hamstring, so we are going to have to monitor it.

But for the weekend visit to Bracknell, we have Matt Sysum and Reidy back from suspension and even Freddie Ward is only a week away, so it is nearly a full squad.
