I THOUGHT the two teams did a reasonable job on a very difficult surface.

Because of the frozen pitch, it is not a game to analyse to death.

The ref was brave to let it go ahead and Uxbridge were screaming for it to be called off at half-time when they were 2-0 down. The pitch was worse at the ‘Dome’ end, as we found out in the second half.

They threw three up front, launched it over the top and made it difficult for us. That is probably the best midfield trio we have played against and, on a proper surface, they could have been really dangerous.

That kind of pitch suits some and not others and we have certainly played a lot better and got beaten.

At 2-2 there was only going to be one winner – and it wasn’t us. But we got a break at the end. We’ve lost out to late winners in the past, so maybe our luck is changing as well.

The lads were chuffed at the end to make it five unbeaten and they are definitely making headway.

Kingy in goal was magnificent and they were two great saves in the first half. I don’t think he realised how shell-shocked he was before we gave him a break, but he has come back well.

I knew we would come through the bad patch as there are too many good players here to be struggling for too long.

It took us a while to work it out, but I think the 4-5-1 suits us, though opposing teams might call it 4-3-3.

We now have the Gloucester Senior Cup game at home to Bristol City on Thursday. It is not ideal, coming just two days before Gosport so it will be mainly for the players who haven’t been getting a game.
