Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman said that he has concerns about how Swindon Town’s away form will impact their ability to compete at the top of League Two.

After seven games of the League Two season, Swindon are about where the pre-season predictions expected them to be, 13th.

However, this does not tell the full story, as they have won three from three at home, scoring eight goals, but are yet to find the net on the road, and have conceded eight in three defeats and one draw.

That rough away form dates back some time, as Joel McGregor’s forced own goal at Cambridge United on April 2 was their last league away goal and the 1-0 win at Tranmere Rovers on March 21 was their last victory on the road.

Ian Holloway has said that he has been examining everything about their away trips, down to when they train, to find a solution to this problem.

The Adver asked Goodman, Sky Sports pundit and EFL expert, about his thoughts on their start to the season when he was speaking to BetVictor, and he said the away form was a cause for concern.

He said: “I expect Swindon Town to be challenging come the end of the season because of the squad they have and more importantly, the manager. But it’s definitely been a mixed bag, and Ian Holloway will be demanding more.

“What jumps off the page is the contrast between their home and away form. They’ve won all three at home, but away from home they’ve drawn one, lost three, and haven’t even scored a goal.

“They got smashed by York City, who are a good team, especially at home. They weren’t helped by the red card for Mitch Clark. It was a staggering reaction; only he can explain it!

“Listen, at the time of the red card, they were already 2–0 down and second best anyway, so I don’t think it altered the result, but there is work to be done. Their home form has kept them in it. Clearly, the area for improvement is away from home.

“It looks like it could be quite competitive at the top of League Two, but I’d still throw Swindon in as one of the teams you’d expect to be up there.”

Swindon will have a pair of home games, against Newport County in the EFL Trophy and Accrington Stanley in the league, to generate some momentum ahead of their next away trip to Rochdale on October 3.
