IMPROVEMENTS to Cirencester’s leisure centre have been celebrated - while other upgrades to the site are in the pipeline.
Changing rooms at Cirencester Leisure Centre in Tetbury Road are said to be ‘much cleaner’, and changing tables have reportedly been added to toilets in the atrium.
A gym upgrade and refurbishment is also planned for the winter, while a lift is scheduled to be replaced soon.
It came after Cotswold district councillor Laura Hall-Wilson paid a visit to the leisure centre several months after complaints were received about the site.
The Standard reported in January how issues over cleanliness and water temperature at the centre had been raised and two lifeguards were said to have got into a fight during a children’s swimming lesson.
“Last week, I met with representatives from Freedom Leisure Cirencester and officers from Cotswold District Council to catch up as it has been six months since we last met following complaints I had received,” Cllr Hall-Wilson - a Conservative councillor for Tetbury with Upton - wrote online on Monday, September 14.
“I was really pleased to report that my experience of the changing rooms has been that they are much cleaner and the team has proactively tweaked the cleaning schedule to hit peak times much more.
“There are also plans to apply for funding to replace some of the stained tiles to improve the overall appearance of the changing rooms and pool.

“The booking system for Family Float-A-Rama has been altered so families are no longer left waiting on the side of the pool for the pool they require.
“Changing tables have been added to the loos in the atrium where it was previously signed as a changing area but there was no table.”
The councillor also had news on future leisure centre improvements.
“After extensive consultation, the gym upgrade and refurbishment will be delivered this winter,” she said.
“The lift is scheduled to be replaced soon.
“The delays on this have been really poor, but I have discovered [this is] more due to process as opposed to a lack of trying.
“I will raise this with the leader of the council because the system should be much more agile to not disadvantage users.”
Cllr Hall-Wilson said she would ‘keep in contact’ with the team at the centre.
