CIRENCESTER residents will have the chance to see historic images of the town brought to life at a free film night as part of the Heritage Open Cirencester weekend.
Archivist Robert Heaven will present three films at the Barn Theatre on Sunday, September 13, beginning at 7.30pm.
The films use photographs from Heaven’s archive of press images from the Wilts and Glos Standard, taken between 1965 and 1990.
They have been colourised and animated to show how Cirencester’s streets, shops and pubs looked in previous decades.
The programme includes Cirencester in Living Colour and Let’s Go Shopping and to the Pub.
A restored archive film of Queen Elizabeth II’s visit to Cirencester in April 1963 will also be screened publicly for the first time.
The footage records the royal visit to the town more than 60 years ago.
Heaven is known to readers through his weekly nostalgia page in the Wilts and Glos Standard.
Free tickets to the event can be booked via the Cirencester Civic Society website.
