A man is fighting for his life after an alleged screwdriver attack removed "half his skull," his family have said.
The 25-year-old man is currently in hospital after police were called at 11.05am on Thursday, July 23, to the Widham Gardens housing estate which is being built in Purton.
He was reportedly stabbed with a screwdriver and remains in a critical condition.
Officers have arrested a 36-year-old man who was known to the victim on suspicion of attempted murder, and a 36-year-old man on suspicion of assisting an offender.
The sister of the victim has since revealed more details in social media posts and comments.
She posted: “Thank you everyone for your positive comments, this is my brother who was stabbed and he’s fighting for his life.
"To all the people making stupid comments, I hope you are never in this position."
Another adds her "brother is led in ICU after a 5 hour operation, half his skull removed fighting for his life at the age of 25".
“It’s going to be a long road not only life threatening at the moment but it’s life changing.
“The screwdriver has gone so deep into the left side of his brain they don’t think he will be the same when he wakes up," adds another.
On Friday, in a social media post she added: “You’ve made it through the night my boy. I’m so proud of you!
“You’ve got this! Keep fighting for us please.”
Other comments have since been left under the post.
One reads: "Keep fighting brother, we know you don’t give up. We all are all right behind you."
Another adds: "Come on my boy. Keep fighting."
Detective Chief Inspector Deb Hatch said at the time: “This is a serious incident which has left a man fighting for his life in hospital.
“His family have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
“I can confirm that we have arrested two people in connection with the incident and we are not currently looking for anybody else.
“I’d like to reassure the community that this is believed to be a targeted, isolated incident and there is no wider threat to the public.
“There will be an increased policing presence in the area in the coming hours and days.
“If you witnessed what happened and we haven’t spoken with you, or you have any concerns, please come forward and speak with one of our officers.”
A cordon was set up and, by Friday afternoon, one police car remained at the scene to block access to the under-construction housing estate.
