A MAJOR road in Cirencester has been closed due to a fallen tree.

The A419 Swindon Road in the town is shut between Kingsmeadow roundabout and Kingshill Lane because of the incident.

A spokesperson for Gloucestershire County Council's highways department said at around 7.30am today (Friday, July 3): "The A419 Swindon Road in Cirencester between Kingsmeadow roundabout and Kingshill Lane is closed due to a fallen tree.

"Please find an alternative route."

Meanwhile, the AA's Traffic news map said at around 6.45am that there was also 'queueing traffic' because of the issue.
