CIRENCESTER Chess Club defeated Swindon Chess Club in a revived post-pandemic match.
The friendly, inter-club encounter, held at Swindon, was a renewal of a long-standing fixture that had been paused during the Covid era.
The match featured 10 boards of players with similar ratings from each club.
With three games left, the match stood at 3.5 each, but a late surge from Cirencester saw them clinch victory at 6.5–3.5.
The match was held on Tuesday, May 12.
Cirencester Chess Club hopes to host a similar event next year.
