WORK is beginning on a huge redevelopment of Cirencester’s hospital.
Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust says it is starting a new programme to redevelop Cirencester Hospital in Tetbury Road in the town.
The trust said the hospital will see improvements to its Minor Injury and Illness Unit provision, as well as new ensuite facilities for inpatients and better outpatient clinic space.
It is anticipated that work on the site will including the refurbishment of some facilities and the rebuilding of other areas.
According to the trust, this will ‘provide the community with a modern and cost-effective facility’.

Architectural practice Corstorphine and Wright has been appointed to assist with work on the hospital.
In an update posted online, a spokesperson for Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust said: “We’re starting a new programme to redevelop Cirencester Hospital to ensure we are better placed to respond to changing healthcare needs in Cirencester and the surrounding areas.
“The programme is in the early stages, and we have appointed programme manager Vicki Heselton and a programme board to oversee this work, as Vicki explains:
“‘This is an exciting opportunity to reimagine our main hospital facility and improve facilities for all those who use our services now and in the future.
“‘While we do not have a lot of detail to share at this early stage, we anticipate the work will include refurbishment of some facilities, as well as rebuilding other areas to provide the community with a modern and cost-effective facility.
“‘In support of the redevelopment strand of the programme of work, some sequential enabling works have taken place.
“‘These include upgrading of plant, equipment and structures planned for retention, as well as improvements to underground infrastructure.
“‘Benefits for patients will include new ensuite facilities for inpatients, better outpatient clinic space and improvements to the urgent care (Minor Injury and Illness Unit) provision.
“‘It is a complex project - aside from operational considerations, the site has a rich mix of archaeological and ecological factors which will be taken into account.
“‘To help us design a facility that meets clinical and patient needs, as well as sustainable solutions and which are sensitive to ecological and archaeological content of the site, we have appointed architects Corstorphine and Wright, which has a number of successful health and hospital projects within their portfolio.
“‘We will provide further updates when we have more information to share.’”
