A sailing club is looking for volunteers to help change lives through the sport.
Sailability@Whitefriars, based at Cotswold Water Park, is calling on people to become part of a community dedicated to enhancing the lives of others, especially those living with reduced independence, social isolation, or limited access to confidence-building activities.
The club ensures that sailing is approachable and enjoyable for all, providing the necessary equipment so nearly anyone can experience the thrill of being on the water.
The club focuses on breaking down barriers and providing opportunities for people to either learn sailing independently or with assistance.
Participants in the club not only learn a new skill but take away more than just the ability to sail—they build confidence, wellbeing, and self-esteem.
For some, the tranquillity and happiness brought about by time on the water are all they need.
The club wants volunteers to offer support both on land and on the water.
The roles they would like to cover are admin and management, shore crew, powerboat drivers, and sailors.
Training will be provided, but enthusiasm is the most important quality the club wants.
A spokesperson for the club said: "Volunteers gain just as much as participants.
"You’ll develop new skills, find purpose, and become part of a supportive, friendly community."
In an open invitation, Sailability@Whitefriars encourages people to come forward and find out more about the role they can play in the community.
Potential volunteers can set the ball rolling by booking their place at volunteer@sailabilityatwhitefriars.org.uk.
Potential volunteers also get a rewarding promise: a piece of cake to sweeten their experience.
