New £5 million GP surgery set to take shape in Tetbury

Construction formally began on November 14 and the surgery will serve more than 10,000 patients when complete.

The new facility, located west of Worwell Farm, will replace the existing Phoenix Tetbury surgery and is designed to improve patient care through modern facilities and expanded capacity.

"We have been working hard with our development partner Stonewood Homes Ltd to construct an attractive, modern, environmentally friendly building that is accessible to our patients and creates positive impacts on the surrounding natural environment."

The current surgery has outgrown its existing building, limiting the services it can provide.

The new premises will address this by offering 16 clinical consulting rooms, enabling a broader range of services to support the growing population.

Healthcare professionals including pharmacists, physiotherapists, social prescribers, GP assistants, and mental health practitioners will have dedicated space to deliver care tailored to individual patient needs.

The design also includes modern reception and waiting areas with improved security, privacy, and accessibility for people with disabilities or mobility issues.

Helen Goodey, director of primary care and place at NHS Gloucestershire, said: "Plans for a new GP surgery in Tetbury have been a key priority for NHS Gloucestershire since 2016 and it has been particularly challenging to identify a suitable and affordable site.

"We have been working closely with Phoenix Health Group over the years to understand their specific proposals and are delighted that building work at Worwell Farm is starting."

The scheme is being delivered in partnership with Assura, Stonewood, and specialist healthcare consultants Osmond Tricks.

Melhuish & Saunders will carry out the construction.

The new surgery will span 1,000 square metres.

Construction is expected to take around 12 months, with the surgery scheduled to open in winter 2026/27.
