A SURPRISE guest made for an exciting pizza awards night for a pony club in the area at the beginning of January.
Tom McEwen, double gold medal-winning Olympic eventer, presented the accolades at the VWH Pony Club’s event at Cricklade Town Hall in Cricklade’s High Street on Thursday, January 2.
The group said goodbye and thank you to its retiring district commissioner, Georgie Davies, and hello to its new district commissioner, Jayne Prestwich.
Ms Davies will continue to be involved in the branch.
Long-service awards were presented to Pamela Ormond, who has been branch president for a remarkable 50 years, and Ursula Scott, assistant district commissioner and safeguarding lead for an impressive 40 years.
Mr McEwen stayed around after the awards, chatting to members and helping them demolish 56 pizzas.
The eventer is a former member of the VWH Pony Club and went through training and camps current members undertake now.
The club is run for children in the area entirely by volunteers, providing annual camps and training sessions throughout the year in all weathers.
It has 140 members and caters for those aged between two and 25.
