SAILORS from the area achieved success at the national and world championships earlier this summer.
South Cerney Sailing Club Youth Cadet Sailors attended the national and world championships in Plymouth 2024 from Sunday, July 28 until Friday, August 9.
The sailing club had a selection of 11 boats with a range of ages (from 8-16years) who were competing in three fleets (gold, silver and regatta).
Both helm and crew had been training hard in hoping to have the best outcome of results.
After an interesting few days of light winds and tackling tides the results from nationals is as follows.
In Regatta Fleet, the National Champions who won 1st place over the 4 days of racing was club's sailors Kyla Brezan and Alex Nailer.
In 4th place came Noah Sauven & George Dearsley, 6th place went to Paige Davidson & Livia Cesari-Wrigley, 8th place went to Bruce Ward & Emily Richardson, 9th place went to Harriet Davies & Saskia Bromhead.
In the Silver Fleet South Cerney Cadet Sailors achieved 7th position went to Teya Brezan & Harriet Dearsley and 31st Position went to Will Hancock & Henry Yates.
In Gold Fleet 34th place went to Monty Hampton & Wilf Kingsnorth, 37th place went to Jemima McMorris & Islay Bromhead, 43rd place went to Benjy Bullock & Oscar Ward, 44th place went to Joshua Davidson & Rosie Hancock.
In the Worlds Cadet Championships they are joined by boats internationally to compete for the World Championship Title.
Representing Great Britain from South Cerney Sailing Club was Monty Hampton and Wilf Kingsnorth.
The club also had five other boats representing in their promotional fleet, that week.
They were racing against worldwide teams, from Australia and Ukraine did particularly well and Australian sailors were overall winners of the race.
Monty and Wilf did well and achieved 24th place overall in the competition.
There was a promotional team also taking part in the worlds competition that get a separate set of results and the club's sailors did very well and achieved the following results.
In 3rd place came Jemima McMorris & Harriet Davies, in 8th place came Benjy Bullock & Alex Nailer, in 15th place Joshua Davidson & Rosie Hancock, in 26th place Will Hancock and Henry Yates and 30th place Paige Davidson and Livia Caesarian-Wrigley.
A spokesperson for the club said: "We are always on the look out for new sailors to join our sailing club, so if you are keen to learn how to sail, please get in touch with South Cerney Sailing Club and come along to a Saturday morning training session to try sailing and see if it’s for you.
"We are a friendly bunch and it’s a great way to make friends and learn a new skill."
